A recent Circana study shows that spending on video games among 18 to 24-year-olds has dropped nearly 25% in the past year. Financial pressures from a tough job market, student loan repayments, and rising living costs are forcing young adults to cut back on gaming expenses. While Gen Z still represents 28% of gamers, many are turning to budget-friendly options like free-to-play and indie games, as well as affordable co-op titles, to keep gaming social without overspending. The rising costs of AAA games and hardware are reshaping how this generation engages with gaming.
