Niantic Lays Off Staff, Shifts to Geospatial AI

Niantic is cutting 68 jobs next month after selling its gaming division, including Pokémon GO. This move follows a $3.5 billion deal with Scopely, allowing the company to focus on geospatial AI tech with a new branch, Niantic Spatial Inc. Despite the layoffs, games like Pokémon GO and Monster Hunter Now will still be managed by Scopely. CEO John Hanke expressed gratitude to those affected, stressing that the layoffs aren't a reflection of their performance.
