Square Enix's latest financial report reveals a 9.9% drop in operating profit for its gaming division, despite strong sales of Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The decline was attributed to the underperformance of mobile and browser-based titles, along with weaker sales from new releases compared to last year's Final Fantasy XVI and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.
However, MMO revenue saw a notable increase, driven by Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail, which contributed to a 9 billion yen rise in net sales and a 2.9 billion yen boost in operating income. Meanwhile, Square Enix’s publishing sector remained stable but saw profits dip due to declining sales of The Apothecary Diaries manga.
Despite an overall 3.5% drop in net sales and 4.4% decline in operating profit, Square Enix has maintained its full-year forecast, expecting a 22.9% rise in operating profit by the end of the fiscal year.
